Welcome to the Victorian Drag Racers Club

Written by Kym Oberauer Sunday, 20 June 2010 10:45

The sport of Drag Racing in Victoria has a long and proud history. From humble beginnings at Riverside in the 1960s (near where the Westgate Bridge now stands), the sport of Drag Racing grew to be the #1 spectator motorsport in Australia during the 1990’s, with Melbourne regarded as the home of Drag Racing. The sport of Drag Racing is once again on the rise with ANDRA Championship Drag Racing thrilling crowds in WA, NSW and QLD.

The Victorian Drag Racers Club (VDRC) was formed in the 1970s as a voice for local Drag Racers, a role it still performs today. With members ranging from current and former racers, crew, fans and friends, the VDRC is a great way to get involved in Victorian Drag Racing.

Darren Parker - Is this the off season?

Is this the off season?

With 1 Round of the Australian Championship completed in Sydney in September and Round 2 not having enough entrants in Palmyra for Super Stock to be run the next round of the Australian championship is in Queensland in January. With 3 months between the season ending Winter Nationals in June and Round 1 of the new championship in Sydney the off-season was shorter than the break between Round 1 and Round 2 in QLD! I don’t know if this is good for the sport, but sitting around for four months with no racing when the weather is beautiful like this is tough. Maybe when (if) Melbourne is able to hold championship racing, this time of the year will be perfect for us to be racing? Not in the summer heat of 42°c+ and with no humidity like Queensland conditions would be ideal!

Darren Parker - Round 1 complete, and a successful weekend

Round 1 Complete and a successful weekend

The preseason for me was lots of time spent in the garage working on the car trying to fix a few of the small problems and make the car competitive for the 2011~2012 season. After qualifying 15th at the first running of the Winter Nationals I was keen to get a bit further up the ladder and closer to the pointy end of the field. As I mentioned in my last Blog there were lots of modifications underway on the GXP from chassis setup, rebuilt carbs and freshened transmission.

Needless to say I was a little nervous before my first pass in the car on the Test Day prior to the Australian Nationals in Sydney a couple of weeks ago. With so many changes to the car what would it do, how would it behave and would it make an improvement?

Darren Parker - Ready for the new season...

Written by Darren Parker Tuesday, 23 August 2011 10:06

Welcome to my first blog of the 2011-2012 ANDRA drag racing series. I know the season hasn’t started yet, however we’re so close to it beginning that I am calling this the start!

The re-run of the Winter Nationals in QLD was a little disappointing for both the racers and the track, but unfortunately that is Drag Racing. We cannot race in the wet like other motorsports and even during the QLD dry season it was still soaking under foot!

As you know I chose not to go back for the re-run even though I was qualified in the field in 15th position. There was still a couple of things I have not been happy with on the car and rather than waste money traveling back up 5 weeks later I decided to stay at home and invest that money back into the car to get it ready for the new season. I wasn’t in the running for the championship so that also made the decision easier.
